It has come to our attention that certain Oxford University Press textbooks contain a problematic and highly concerning website link.聽The link at the front of these textbooks (includes the text “obookassess”) is intended to direct users to Oxford resources but currently leads to an inappropriate website.
Oxford University Press has acknowledged the issue, attributing it to the expiration of the domain name, which has since been acquired by an unrelated group. The issue affects not only older textbooks but also those sold as recently as September this year. Oxford University Press has not provided a comprehensive list of affected textbooks and has advised the following action plan.
To address this issue as quickly as possible, Oxford University Press will:
Provide stickers:聽Oxford University Press will supply high-adherence stickers to cover the outdated URL on the imprint page to their contemporary domain,聽. These stickers are designed so that they cannot be removed and can be applied to all affected books. Oxford University Press hopes the sticker approach will also work for those who have purchased a second-hand product or for those products that are now out of print or with expired digital licences.
AISNSW has reported this matter to the eSafety Commissioner, and they recommend that聽if you or your child has been impacted to make your own report as well.
We are very concerned that this has occurred and have sent this message out urgently to prevent harm to any of our school students. If you have any questions, please contact me.
Kind regards
Tristan Bevan
Head of Senior School
